Watch: Interview
with a Death Doula

What drew me to this work?

For the birth of my second child, I enlisted the help of a birth doula. To be honest, I didn’t exactly know what she did and how helpful she would be, after all the birth of my first child went pretty quickly and seemed seamless enough. However, once labor began and our birth doula met us at the hospital, it became clear to me how she would make a difference. In thinking about the experience with a doula, the words that come to my mind are care, support, reassurance, and advocacy. To have somebody on my side whose sole purpose was to guide and support me was invaluable. This beautiful experience has led me to becoming a death doula, so that I can give you and your family that same type of support through the dying & death process.

Hello, I’m Natalie.

After receiving my degree in Psychology from San Francisco State University in 2001, I went on to work in Human Resources in architecture & design for 15 years. This role has helped me to hone my listening skills, to be able to have difficult conversations, honor privacy and confidentiality, and ultimately have my client’s best interest at heart.

I am a firm believer in affecting change through one’s community. I am a volunteer at Torrance Memorial Hospice and Westside Pacific Village, a local non-profit providing services to older adults so that they have the ability to age at home. I strongly feel that all of my experience up until now has led to this path of being a death doula.
